Madison, WI & telehealth across Wisconsin

Two frequencies, finding their rhythm.

Attune Therapies is the solo practice of Dana Whitfield, LMFT — therapy for anxious overthinkers, disconnected couples, and anyone ready to hear themselves clearly again.

Currently accepting new individual and couples clients · evening appointments available

Maybe you're running your own mind on overtime — replaying conversations, bracing for the next thing, never quite landing in the moment you're in. Or maybe you and your partner are speaking, but somewhere between the words, you're missing each other. That gap between what's happening inside you and what you're able to say out loud — that's where the work starts.

What I help with

Four places people usually start

01

Anxiety & overthinking

For the mind that won't stop running scenarios. We'll work on catching the spiral earlier and building a nervous system that can actually rest.

02

Couples & connection

For partners who've drifted into parallel lives. We'll slow the same fight down enough to see what it's actually about.

03

Life transitions

Career pivots, new parenthood, breakups, moves. Support for the in-between stretch when the old identity doesn't fit and the new one isn't built yet.

04

Trauma-informed care

EMDR and body-aware approaches for the things that keep showing up in your present even though they belong to your past.

How I work

Grounded in method, not just conversation

Sessions are warm, but they're not aimless. Each approach below is one I trained in directly and use deliberately, matched to what you're working through.

Ask which approach might fit you →
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, for trauma and stuck emotional memories. Trained through the EMDR International Association.
Attachment-based therapy
Looking at the early relational patterns that still shape how you connect, trust, and pull away today.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Practical tools for noticing the thought loops that feed anxiety and building more workable ones in their place.
Mindfulness-based practice
Body-first techniques for coming back into the present when your mind has already left the room.

About

Dana Whitfield, LMFT

I started Attune Therapies after ten years working in community mental health, where I kept seeing the same thing: people who were managing their lives just fine on paper, and quietly exhausted underneath it. That's who I like working with — the people holding it together who are ready to stop just holding on.

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Wisconsin #LMFT-4471), trained in EMDR, and I see individual adults and couples, in Madison and by telehealth across the state. Outside of session, I'm usually somewhere near Lake Mendota, badly identifying birds.

Questions

Before your first session

What actually happens in the free consult?

Twenty minutes on the phone or video. You tell me what's going on and what you're hoping for, I explain how I work, and we both get a read on whether it's a good fit — no pressure either way.

Do you take my insurance?

I'm in-network with BCBS of WI and Quartz. For other plans, I provide a monthly superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement — I can help you check your benefits before you start.

Is telehealth actually as effective as in-person?

For most of what I treat, yes. Research on EMDR, CBT, and talk therapy over video shows comparable outcomes to in-office work. Some clients start on telehealth and move to in-person later, or the reverse.

How long does someone usually stay in therapy?

It depends on what brought you in. Some clients come for a focused stretch of a few months around one issue; others stay on for ongoing, longer-term support. We'll check in on this together as we go.

What if I need help right now, not next week?

This site and my email aren't monitored for emergencies. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or go to your nearest emergency room.
